I'm creating this thread to host all discussions related to the City of Ottawa's "Heritage Reference List", which will hopefully be a key project our group can contribute to in 2016 (and going forward).
I made an introductory presentation on this subject at the kick-off meeting of the group on 28 February, and have attached the powerpoint presentation I used below: Heritage Reference List - New ppt.pptx (831.01 KB)
The next step will be to coordinate with both the city Heritage Planners section, as well as the local community associations, on hosting an information session on what the city is proposing to do, and how both the community associations and ordinary residents can help out. I think there will be lots to do in terms of identifying houses worthy of being listed, and coming up with some information on key tombstone data such as address, year of construction, builder, rationale, etc.

Here is the spreadsheet copy of the reference list: Heritage Reference List Kitchissippi.xlsx (156.24 KB) The columns in purple I added in - the approximate neighbourhoods just to help sort the addresses a little, but there may be a couple of errors. Note that some addresses are listed in the sheet multiple times. This is exactly how it appears in the city's database, and I don't know the reason for it. Perhaps different elements or portions of the building were at one time listed independently. Columns U through AF are largely empty, but was where at one point they had attempted to begin adding construction dates, designated dates, etc. Remember that this is just to be considered a rough starting point, but we know that many addresses are not on this list, and conversely, many addresses that do appear on it are long-since demolished or too significantly altered to still be considered heritage. Also column R is the "heritage category", but many of the terms are out-dated. The main notation to show where a property has Heritage Designation (versus being just listed) is column Q, where an "IV" indicates that it has received designation under part 4 (IV) of the Ontario Heritage Act. But even this column is missing some buildings which have part 4.
